6 Ways to ReUse Old Tires:
1. Paint your old tires in pastels and bright colors. Lay each tire down flat in the pattern of your choice in your backyard. Fill it with dirt to use it as a unique, decorative “growing pot” for flowers. (Be careful not to place these tires close to edible vegetables and roots)
2. Drill a few holes for water drainage and create a fun tire swing for you and your friends and family
3. Reuse the tires to create your own contained sandbox
4. Use the tire as a bumper to prevent damage to your car when parked
5. Reuse old bicycle tires to make your own belt
6. Recap/retread your tire: this manufacturing process extends the tire’s life and saves millions of gallons of oil each year because it takes only 7 gallons of oil to retread a used tire compared to 22 gallons of oil to produce a new tire
Environmental Impacts of ReUsing Plastic Bottles:
- Approximately 290 million used tires are discarded by Americans every year
- The United States has significantly increased its tire reclamation efforts to slightly more than 80%– However, the 55 million tires (19%) not reclaimed are being thrown into landfills or, even worse, disposed of on roadsides and properties around the country.
– This does not only create an eyesore but public health and safety hazards as well
– Discarded tires are also at risk of fire: releasing extremely toxic pollutants into the air, creating serious respiratory and health problems for people
Tire reuse doesn’t just make the trash pile in the dumps or landfills smaller; it also saves you money on tire disposal fees!
